FINDING THE AIRPLANE

1976 Cessna 172M Skyhawk II

After I received my Private Pilot's License in March of 2013, my Father was inspired but his son's achievement, and decided to go out for a biannual flight review to reinstate his passion for aviation. However, now that we're both active pilots, we decided it was time to look for an airplane. We discussed what type of airplane to look for- we wanted something single engine and not too big to keep cost down. We looked at Cessna 172s, 182s, Cherokees, and a few others. My father used to own a Cessna 172N, and we've both always been a fan of a Skyhawk.

In November 2013, I flew a friend from Austin, TX to Brenham, TX (11R) in a rental Cessna 152 to grab a bite to eat (video). As we were walking out of the diner, which is located on the airport, I stopped to look at a brown and gold Cessna 172 with a "For Sale" sign in the windshield.

We got in touch with the owner and headed out to the airplane a couple of weeks later to meet him and take a closer look.
